Utstillingen Stjernene der nede er et stort tekstil verk som fyller gallerirommet. Ved hjelp av knytebatikk utført på gjenbruksmaterialer har Elise Storsveen forsøkt å skape en illusjon av bilder av verdensrommet.

Verdensrommet har alltid fasinert mennesker og vært inspirasjonskilde for både vitenskaplige undersøkelser og litterære fantasier. Hubbelteleskopet og andre tekniske apparater gjør det mulig å fotografere, dokumentere og undersøke stjerner, planeter og galakser. På tross av en pågående vitenskaplige avdekking av verdensrommet er det mye vi ikke vet og mange av teoriene er så abstrakte at de kun forstås av eksperter.

Installasjonens tittel Stjernene der nede er hentet fra en science fiction novelle av den amerikanske forfatteren Manly Wade Wellman. I novellens fiktive univers stilles forestillingen om at verden er rund opp mot erkjennelsen av at den er flat. Science fiction genren mikser vitenskaplige fakta og fantasi og skaper særegne fiktive univers med en egen indre logikk. I installasjonen gjør Elise Storsveen noe av det samme. Hun problematiserer skillet mellom fiksjon og virkelighet i sitt forsøk på å skape en illusjon av bilder av verdensrommet med stjerner og planeter.

Elise Storsveen er født i Oslo i 1969. Hun bor og arbeider i Oslo. Hun er utdannet ved Statens Håndverk- og kunstindustriskole og Kunstakademiet i Oslo med avgangseksamen fra 1996. Hun har hatt sparatutstillinger blant annet i Galleri Trafo i Asker, 0047, Kunstnerforbundet og Fotogalleriet i Oslo. I 2010 – 2011 deltok hun på gruppeutstillingen Take me to your leader, ved Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst og Bergen Kunstmuseum. Hun har gjort flere samarbeidsprosjekter med Jon Gundersen, blant annet collageprosjektet Vet naturen hva den gjør? I samarbeid med Eline Mugaas lager hun Fanzinen ALBUM#, og stiller for tiden ut dette prosjektet på Kunsthalle i Zürich og på utstillingen Millenuim Magazine på MoMa i New York.

Utstillingen Stjernene der nede fikk god anmeldelse i Klassekampen 16. mai.

The exhibition The stars down there consists of one large textile work. The project of Elise Storsveens has been to create an illusion of images of space by using tiedye technique on seconhand textile materials.

The space has allways fascinated people and been a source of inspiration to both scientific research and literary fantasies. The hubble telescope and various other technical devices makes it possible to take photographs, make documentation and research of stars, planets and galaxis. But still there is a lot we do not know about the space, and many of the teories are soo abstract that they can only be understood by experts.

The exhibitions title, The stars down there, is borrowed from a science fiction short story by the american writer Manly Wade Wellman. In the short storys fictional univers the notion that the world is round is set up against the recognition that it is flat. The science fiction genre mixes science and fantasy and creates fictive universes with a certain kind of inner logic. Elise Storsveen is doing something similar in this installation. She stresses the distiction between fiction and reality in her attempt to create an illusion of images of space with stars and planets.

Elise Storsveen (1969) lives and works in Oslo. She studied at The National College of Arts in Oslo, graduated in 1996. She has had solos exhibitions at Galleri Trafo, Asker, 0047, Kunstnerforbundet, Fotogallery in Oslo, among others. In 2010-2011 she participated in the group show Take me to your leader at The National Museum and Bergen Art Museum. She has done sveral collaborative projects with Jon Gundersen. She is working together with Eline Mugaas with the fanzine ALBUM#, which is currently exhibited at Kunsthalle Zürich and at MoMa in New York.
