Vi har gleden av å ønske velkommen til Tobias Alexander Danielssons første separatutstilling i Norge etter endt utdannelse. Utstillingen åpnes av kunstner og professor ved Kunstakademiet, KhiO, Jeannette Christensen.

I SOFT galleri viser Danielsson nyproduserte arbeider som er laget spesielt til gallerirommet på SOFT og tar spesifikt utgangspunkt i rommets store vindu ut mot gaten. Et vindu som på samme tid både avgrenser og åpner opp mot det som er innenfor fra det som er utenfor. Utstillingen vil vise en rekke skulpturer som blir innrammet av en nettkonstruksjon som går fra tak til gulv.

Tittelen The lines that defines henviser til de tomrommene som oppstår i og mellom verkene. Fordi verkene i utstillingen forholder seg til kropp og bevegelse blir publikum en del i dialogen med rommet. Danielsson ser på skulpturene som rammer i forandring som både inviterer og utelukker betrakteren. Verkene i denne utstillingen er laget i en teknikk der Danielsson binder og knytter tekstiler rundt konstruksjoner i metall og tre som han siden maler og lakkerer. Flatene som oppstår blir solide og bærende samtidig som de er skjøre og sårbare.

Tobias Alexander Danielsson har over lengre tid vært opptatt av forholdet mellom objekt og kropp. Med vegg- og gulvbaserte verk som grenser mellom skulptur og maleri, installasjon og performance arbeider han ofte med interaktive innslag som en forhandling mellom verk og kropp.

Tobias Alexander Danielsson. Født 1987 i Jonkoping i Sverige. Bor og arbeider i Oslo. Danielsson har sin utdannelse fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, avdeling Kunstakademiet, med en MA fra 2015. Tidligere har ha stilt ut separat ved Göteborgs kunstforening i Sverige (2016), Pushwagner WindowBox Gallery i Oslo (2014) og i Konsthall 1.0 i Jonkoping i Sverige (2011). Han har også deltatt i flere gruppeutstillinger som blant annet: Offside, Akershus Kunstsenter (2016), Hengende Hager i Kunsthall Grenland (2016) og The African Art Show, Kunstplass 10 (2015).

I 2016 ble et av Tobias Danielssons verk innkjøp til Nordenfjeldske Kunstinsdusti-museums samlinger.

We are pleased to welcome you to the opening of an exhibition by Tobias Alexander Danielsson – his first solo show in Norway since completing his studies. The exhibition will be officially opened by Professor Jeannette Christensen from Oslo National Academy of the Arts/Art Academy.

At SOFT galleri, Danielsson presents new works made expressly for the space. His starting point is the room’s large window facing the street: a window that is a boundary for what is inside, but simultaneously opens it up to what is outside. The exhibition presents sculptures that are framed by a network construction extending from the floor to the ceiling.

The title, The Lines that Defines, relates to the empty spaces that emerge in and between the works. Because the works in the exhibition relate to the body and to movement, the public enter into dialogue with the space. Danielsson sees the sculptures as frames undergoing change, as both inviting and excluding the viewer. The works are made by binding and knotting textiles around constructions of metal and wood, after which they are painted and varnished. The surfaces become solid and able to support something, but at the same time fragile and vulnerable.

Danielsson has for some time been interested in the relation between objects and the human body. Through wall- and floor-based works bordering between sculpture, painting, installation and performance, he explores interactive elements that negotiate between work and body.

Tobias Alexander Danielsson (b.1987, Jönköping, Sweden) lives and works in Oslo. He studied at Oslo National Academy of the Arts/Art Academy, earning a master’s degree in 2015. His previous solo shows have been at Göteborg Art Society (2016), Pushwagner WindowBox Gallery in Oslo (2014), and Konsthall 1.0 in Jönköping (2011). He has participated in several group exhibitions, some of which are Offside at Akershus Kunstsenter (2016), Hanging Gardens at Kunsthall Grenland (2016) and The African Art Show at Kunstplass 10 (2015). I 2016, one of his works was purchased for the collection of the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Trondheim.

The exhibition has received support from Oslo Municipality.
